Intelligence Briefing: Why We Ask for Your API Key
Every good spy needs a cover story, but here your identity is the one thing we need to confirm. We ask for your Guild Wars 2 API key so the site can recognise you when you enter competitions and take part in our interactive content. Your key is checked once with ArenaNet, which confirms it’s genuine and returns your account name, ID and world. It is never stored on this site. We keep only those three details.
Your key stays under your control: revoke it at account.arena.net whenever you like, and we lose access immediately. Prefer to stay off the record? Anonymous play still works, and nothing is filed. Our agents keep no secrets from one another, but your key is one secret we’d never share.
Technical Data: Your Field Kit
Every agent needs a key. This one is an API key: a long string that proves you’re really you, and nothing more.
What we need (the minimum)
- One API key with the account permission ticked. That’s all.
- Leave the other permissions off. We only need to confirm your key is yours and read your account name and world.
How to get one
- Log in at account.arena.net with your Guild Wars 2 account.
- Open the section for API keys (it’s usually labelled Applications; check the page, as ArenaNet may have moved things).
- Create a new key, give it a name such as “Ash Legion”, and tick account only.
- Copy the key straight away. It’s a long string of letters and numbers. If your API status in the bottom right is currently showing Unverified, paste it into the box above for immediate verification.
What happens next
We check the key once with ArenaNet, read your account name and world, and then forget the key. Think of it as a one-time handshake, not a long-term embrace.
Your key is a secret we’d never share.
